ART2012 Advanced Sculpture/Ceramics

Grades 9-12. Prerequisite: A minimum of 2 courses in the 3D strand.

This semester course is designed for individual discovery, and will help students establish ideas and themes. Students will continue to develop techniques in their educational strand of sculpture, ceramics/or mixed media, while working on a portfolio that will showcase their vision and expression. A materials fee will be charged.

TEE2005 Automotive Maintenance

Grade 10-12. One semester. Not a prerequisite for Automotive Mechanics.

This course is designed for students to gain basic knowledge and skills to maintain automobiles. This course covers the following areas in automotive maintenance: engine tune-up, lubrication maintenance, electrical maintenance, tires and wheels, drivetrain maintenance, and seasonal maintenance procedures. Lab and workbook fees will be charged.

TEE1004 Power Mechanics

Grade 9-12. One semester. No Prerequisite.

This is an introductory course in the area of gasoline engine operation and fluid power mechanics. The course of study will concentrate on small two- and four-cycle engine operations. In Power Mechanics, students will also disassemble, inspect, and reassemble small gasoline engines and learn about the different types of systems. Students will be introduced to the operations of automotive engines, automotive maintenance, and car design. A lab fee will be charged.

TEE2002 Introduction to Construction Trades

Grade 10-12. One semester.

This preparatory course is designed for any student interested in learning about construction technology and/or related fields such as architecture, contracting and engineering. The student will develop a background in design, preparation, construction, and maintenance as it relates to a single-family home. Other career opportunities in construction technology will be explored: creating blueprints, surveying, concrete, carpentry, roofing, plumbing, heating and air conditioning, electricity, insulation, siding, drywall, and painting. Safe practices in the use of hand tools and power tools used in the industry will be covered. A lab fee will be charged.

TEE1002 Engineering Technology 2

Grade 9-12. One semester. Prerequisite is Engineering Technology 1.

Engineering Technology 2 builds on skills learned in Engineering Technology 1 in order to deepen understanding. The Engineering Design Process continues to drive the direction of the course and student learning. Students carry out the process through several projects that are grounded in a variety of engineering fields including computer-aided manufacturing, aeronautical design, robotics and digital electronics. Along the way, students learn how to use industry standards tools such as CAD modeling software, 3D printers, CNC machines and Arduino microcontrollers. A lab fee will be charged.

TEE1001 Engineering Technology 1

Grade 9-12. One semester.

Students will be involved in problem-solving investigations and other meaning­ful tasks that allow them to work in groups and/or autonomously to solve problems by develop­ing realistic products. The Engineering Design Process drives the direction of the course and student learning. Students carry out the process through several projects that are grounded in a variety of engineering fields including manufacturing, architecture, electronics and hydraulic machinery.  Along the way, students learn how to use fundamental engineering technology such as manufacturing equipment and computer modeling programs to design and build their projects. A lab fee will be charged.

SOCS3017A AP Psychology

Grade 11-12. Year-Long. Weighted grade.

This full year course is designed to understand and apply the principles of Psychology, scientific research, and individual behavior.  The course will prepare students for intermediate and advanced college courses by making demands upon them equivalent to that of a psychology researcher through a variety of psychological perspectives.  The content will focus on history and approaches, advanced experimental design, biological functioning, sensation and perception, learning and behaviorism, motivation and emotion, testing and individual differences, developmental psychology, personality, psychological disorders and their treatments, and social psychology.  Intensive reading and writing in the field of psychology will be a major focus, as will hands-on research and experimentation, with an emphasis on applying psychological concepts to daily life.  Students who successfully complete this course and the AP Psychology examination may receive college credit and/or higher placement in college.

SOCS3012C Online Psychology

Grade 11-12 One Semester. Prerequisite is prior completion of a Social Studies course.

What determines behavior? This online eLo course is designed to expose students to the world of normal psychology. This course will provide students with an understanding of their own behavior as well as the behavior of other individuals. Attention is paid to the biology and chemistry of the human brain. Emphasis is placed on the psychological research regarding sleep, dreams, emotions, mental health, and motivation. This course requires reading, oral and written communication, and research skills.

SOCS3012 Psychology

Grade 11-12. One semester. Prerequisite is prior completion of a Social Studies course.

Psychology is the scientific study of human and animal behavior.  The course’s goal is to help students better understand individual behavior and the world around them.  This college-prep course will provide students with an opportunity to apply psychological concepts to real life situations through hands-on learning, in-class demonstrations, and student-centered projects.  Students will explore and reflect on various topics, including: scientific research, developmental psychology, learning theories, abnormal behavior, therapy, and social psychology.
