This course introduces students to the evolving world of cybersecurity. The course explores cyber trends, threats—along with the broader topic of cybersecurity in a way that will matter to individuals and society. For instance, you’ll learn how to protect your personal privacy online while gaining additional insight into the challenges companies, and governmental and educational institutions face today.  A materials fee will be charged.

PE3300BL Sports Medicine (Blended)

Grades 11-12

This course is designed to provide an introduction to the Athletic Training profession and the necessary skills needed in the area of sports medicine.  Students in this class will gain an understanding of how to prevent, evaluate, manage, and rehabilitate injuries that occur in the athletic realm. Students will gain an understanding of anatomy, physiology of exercise, therapeutic exercise, taping, common mechanisms of injuries, and nutrition as they are related to sport.

WLAN5003 American Sign Language 3

Grades 11-12

American Sign Language (ASL) 3 builds on interpretive, interpersonal and presentational communication skills by focusing on the implementation of higher-level vocabulary and grammatical structures.  Students will apply new knowledge to produce various forms of ASL literature. Students will continue to examine, analyze, and compare cultural perspectives, important figures in the Deaf community, and ASL art and literature.  ASL will be the primary mode of communication (student-student and/or student-teacher) throughout this course.

MATH 1008A AP Computer Science Principles

Grade 9-12. Prerequisite Algebra 1.  Weighted Grade.

This course offers a multidisciplinary approach to teaching the underlying principles of computation. The course will introduce students to the creative aspects of programming, abstractions, algorithms, large data sets, the Internet, cybersecurity concerns, and computing impacts.  The course is designed to be equivalent to a one-semester introductory college computing course and complements AP Computer Science A as it aims to broaden participation in the study of Computer Science.  AP Computer Science Principles also gives students the opportunity to use current technologies to create computational artifacts for both self-expression and problem solving.

Students who successfully complete this course and the AP Computer Science A examination may receive college credit and/or a higher placement for a college course.

 

MATH 3013BL College Algebra

Grade 12.  Students must complete 3 credits of HS math and have completed an Algebra 2 course to enroll.

This course is designed to review and reinforce Algebraic Concepts necessary for success in a first-year college credit bearing math course.  The course aims to prepare students for collegiate level mathematics thinking, communicating, problem solving and applying the mathematical practice standards.

This course was collaboratively developed with the DuPage County High Schools and the College of DuPage.  Successful completion of this course will result in  placement in a college credit bearing math course at COD and several other colleges.

SCI 2018BL Chemistry (Blended)

Grade 10-12. Prerequisite is Biology and concurrent enrollment in Geometry.

This course introduces the college-bound student to basic chemistry principles through lecture, laboratory, and group work. The laboratory experience emphasizes the discovery of key concepts through the analysis of student-generated data.

MATH 2002AL AP Statistics (Blended)

Grade 10-12. Prerequisite is Algebra 2 Trigonometry & Statistics or higher. Weighted Grade.

The Advanced Placement course in statistics introduces students to the major concepts and tools for collecting, analyzing, and drawing conclusions from data. Students who successfully complete the course and AP examination may receive college credit and/or a higher placement in college.  A graphing calculator is required (TI-84 or equivalent is recommended).NOTE: A TI-89 is not equipped with a statistics package.

A workbook fee will be charged.

ENGL4002BL English 4 – 20th Century Literature and Composition (Blended)

One semester.

This course allows seniors the opportunity to read a variety of contemporary novels, plays, and short stories. Building on textual knowledge, critical thinking, and composition skills developed in previous English classes, students will question and determine the role of contemporary literature in society through a variety of written analyses, class presentations, and quarterly projects. Literature read in this course contains mature content.

BUS4001BL Consumer Economics (Blended)

Grade 12.

Consumer Economics, a required course, will integrate economic concepts with consumer skills, a combination necessary for added satisfaction in the use of personal resources. Instruction will center on the student’s role in the economy as a citizen, consumer, and worker. Topics will include money management, buying goods and services, housing, banking and the Federal Reserve System, financial institutions and the use of credit and loans, consumer protection, insurance, savings and investing, pricing of products, supply and demand, taxation, government, and the free enterprise system. The capstone project of the course is a real-life consumer simulation.

Grades 10-12

American Sign Language (ASL) 2 strengthens the receptive and expressive communication skills that were developed in ASL 1, through the continued use of culturally-rich thematic units. Students will analyze and utilize more complex vocabulary and grammatical structures through performance-based activities.  This course will continue to examine cultural perspectives and comparisons, important figures in the Deaf community, and ASL art and literature.
